LYMPHEDEMA TREATMENT / CHRONIC VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY
Simply put, LYMPHEDEMA is the swelling of a limb or body part as a result of damaged or insufficient lymph nodes. This swelling can be a
result of surgery/resection, radiation or present at birth. If any swelling is left untreated it can lead to cellulitis and hospitalization.
Chronic venous insufficiency responds very well to a lymphedema therapy regimen.
LYMPHEDEMA treatment may consist of:
- Skin/Wound Care
- Manual Therapy
- Compression Wrapping / Bandaging
- Therapeutic Exercise
- Intermittent Vasopneumatic Compression Pumping
- Activites of daily living training
- Other modalities
PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY
The Flint Center for Speciallized Physical Therapies offers a non-invasive treatment to control and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
Pelvic Floor Therapy can address:
- Urinary frequency or urgency (i.e. after prostatectomy or after pregnancy)
- Pelvic pain / Vulvodynia
- Interstitial cystitis
- Muscle re-education before ostomy reversal
- Bowel control issues
Pelvic Floor Therapy may include but not limited to:
- Therapeutic exercises
- Electrical stimulation
- Neuro-muscular re-education
